The John D. Forbes Seminar for Career Focused Writing and Communications will emphasize oral and written communications in the interest of preparing Arts & Sciences students for leadership roles in a variety of careers.

The College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences is awarding $500,000 in research seed funding toward projects from principal investigators in the Departments of Economics, Environmental Sciences, Psychology, and Religious Studies.
The grant will allow the University of Virginia to hire two curators for its extensive collections of artworks from the Americas and Australia. The grant also will support new arts programs for UVA faculty and students.
UVA has supplied ambassadors since the earliest days of the republic and “currently, more Foreign Service officers are alumni of the University than of any other university,” including Derek Mitchell (Foreign Affairs '86), U.S. ambassador to Burma, and Kevin Whitaker (History '79), U.S. ambassador to Colombia.
