The College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences is celebrating 200 years since the first day of classes at the University of Virginia on March 7, 1825—a milestone captured in our Bicentennial theme, Reflect. Discover. Lead. This year invites us to reflect on two centuries of academic excellence and transformative impact, discover the innovations and opportunities shaping today’s liberal arts and sciences education, and lead boldly into the next 200 years. The short film featured here is a 90-second “anthem” that brings this story to life. It honors the College’s rich history as the heart and soul of UVA, showcases its role as a model for liberal arts education nationwide, and looks ahead to an inspiring future—expanding access, elevating excellence, and ensuring every student experiences the full power of a UVA liberal arts education.

He who knows most, knows best how little he knows."
-Thomas Jefferson

We come to these Grounds
In pursuit of knowledge
And follow our pursuits without end

In quiet moments
And loud gestures
Toward bold ideas
And broad impact

We come for math, for literature, for the stars
To study history, and to find our place within it
To create new ways to share
And understand
And connect

Because the thinkers and makers and leaders who come to these Grounds
Discover their community
Build their legacy
And shape our world
For two centuries
And for the centuries to come
