A&S Dean's Office Celebrates Contributions of Departing Team Members
The A&S community celebrated the contributions of three colleagues concluding their service in the Dean’s Office with a June 25 party. Nearly 60 faculty and staff colleagues and other friends gathered at the Doyle Hotel to send off Associate Deans Sarah Betzer and Laura Galloway (pictured to the left of A&S Dean Christa Acampora) and Senior Administrative Assistant Andie Weaver (pictured on the right).
A Commonwealth Professor of Biology, Galloway holds the distinction of having held the most Dean’s Office titles, including interim Dean and her recently concluded term as Associate Dean for Research. In that most recent role, Galloway built a robust research administration team and is credited with elevating the importance of the sciences in the Dean’s Office while building a sense of partnership in her relationship with the department chairs.
A professor of art history, Betzer had a profound impact on the College as one of the inaugural co-directors of the Engagements curriculum. As Associate Dean for the Arts & Humanities, she played a key role in the re-recruitment and retention of talented faculty in the arts and humanities while pioneering the chair leadership series and shepherding key College priorities such as the Center for the Arts.
After supporting the A&S academic administration for nearly six years, Weaver is moving to Maine, where her partner, Anderson, is starting an associate professor appointment at Bates College. In her opening remarks at the reception, Acampora noted that Weaver had the longest tenure in the Dean’s Office among those being honored at that evening’s sendoff party.
“Her colleagues appreciate her passion for supporting others and the sense of joy she brings to her everyday work,” Acampora said. “And to everyone here this evening, please accept my deep gratitude for all that you do to support Arts & Sciences and each other. Your contributions may sometimes feel unseen, but they make a real and lasting impact, and I am deeply grateful,” Acampora said in her remarks.
