Teams of staff members from across the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences were among the hundreds of University of Virginia staff who volunteered last week as part of the United Way of Charlottesville’s 34th Annual Laurence E. Richardson Day of Caring.

UVA staff joined more than 2,100 other volunteers who took on 115 projects across the community on Sept. 17. United Way estimated the value of this year’s service, which included the AS&S volunteer team of Kerry Grannis, Jessica Worsham, Elana Zemmel and Karleen Kovalcik sorting and organizing wound care supplies at the nonprofit All Blessings Flow (pictured above) at $365,000.

Other A&S staff teams volunteered at the Piedmont Virginia Community College and with Project Linus making no-sew fleece blankets. Another A&S group has had their Day of Caring volunteer outing to Piedmont Casa rescheduled for later this month due to rainy conditions last week.

Day of Caring volunteers and project hosts will celebrate the impact of this year’s effort at a Sept. 25 reception at The Center at Belvedere.

The A&S staff volunteer teams, by project location, include:

  • All Blessings Flow: Kerry Searle Grannis, Karleen Kovalcik, Jessica Worsham, Elena Zemmel
  • PVCC Community Garden: Kenneth Anderson, Vincent Bayes, Tim Dunne
  • Piedmont Casa: Emily Chen, Emily Daniel, Laura Mellusi, Eric Schmidt, Victoria Valdes
